  • Four Thirds User Fortnightly Salon No.1

The theme for the very first FTU Salon is:

    THE WIND

UPDATE: extended by one week This salon will close at 16:00 UK time (11:00 EST, 8AM PST, 17:00 CET, etc.) on Friday, 17th August.

    Here's what you do:

    1. Either take a picture that matches the nominated theme (in this case - 'The Wind') or select one from your portfolio. You must be the photographer that created the picture in order to enter it.

    2. Upload your entry to your FTU user gallery (all entries must be present in an FTU gallery, which you automatically get if you are registered on the FTU forum), so if you aren't registered, you will need to if you would like to join the fun!)

    3. Use the gallery IMG code or the 'Post New Thread' Advanced Mode 'My Pics' facility to display your picture in a response to this message. If you are having trouble with this, post a message for some help here and we'll gladly assist. It become easy after a while!

    4. Only one entry per salon, please. If you want to withdraw an entry and replace it with another, that's OK, but you must make it clear in the post containing your replacement picture that this is what you intend doing.

    5. The decision of the curator at the end of the two weeks is final - don't give him or her a hard time about it; this is just a friendly photo challenge, after all!

    6. The person who submitted the chosen picture will assume the responsibility of curator and, as soon as possible, post a message starting a new thread in the FTU Salon board, with details of the new theme. That opening message must include a copy of these instructions, which also double as the rules.

    7. The curator can't enter his or her own salon!

    8. Have fun, and... GOOD LUCK!

HINT: - see how they do it over at FTU's sibling site, DPNow.com

I'm not familiar with this procedure. I do not have an URL. Can I submit photos as email attachments? Please advise.

You need to upload your salon photo to the gallery space that is provided as part of your forum access. To do this, go to the gallery home page and from there you will see a link for you to upload pictures.

Once you have uploaded your picture, view the picture in your gallery and you will see an option to copy the IMG code for that picture. This can be simply pasted in to a response to the opening message (or any other message) in this thread.

An easier way is to use 'My Pics' (under the message smileys in the Advanced message editor) which brings up a thumbnail display of your gallery images. Select Original Image and Centred and, ensuring the cursor is inside the message editor, click on the thumbnail of the image you wish to include and its IMG code will magically appear in your message.

I'm totally confused too, which is one of the reasons I never uploaded to the sibling site. I'll go over the instructions again, DUH ;>)

I've just realised that the option to show the IMG code for the picture was switched off - sorry!

Have a look again, under your pictures in your gallery.

Hi Lyn, please don't let any problems you may have with understanding the Salon concept/workings stop you from entering and having some fun. We can easily help you either here or via a Private Message (PM) Perhaps now that Ian has sorted out the BB code which appears below your gallery pics, it may be easier. Hope to see your entry soon

Well, I hadn't fixed the code display

I had set it to display the html code for the picture, but html tags are not allowed in posting (for security reasons).

Anyway - I have now enabled UBBCode compatibility - just copy the UBBCode under the picture and paste into your forum message post and when you preview or submit the post, you will see your picture included in your forum message - honest!

[QUOTE=OzGary;582]Here's my take on THE WIND...

That's exactly what I was looking for - a wide interpretation of the words "the wind" in photographs.

This salon is really starting to rock!
