Re: The Weekly Close Up 1/2011

We might as well keep this one going for a while.

Still not much to shoot, so all I have is flowers still.

    E 5, 50mm/ ec 20/ RF-11

Hope you are having better luck.

Jim, that second one is a fantastic abstract. I love the somewhat muted colors. All are great. Are they the result of the RF-11? How much crop in your shots. I've been using the EC-20/ZD50 combo on the E-PL2 recently and find it a great combo. Adding the RF-11 somewhat overwhelms it though

Re: The Weekly Close Up 1/2011

Thank you Steve. It is a wonderful lens.

I do use the SRF-11 on almost all of my 50mm shots but am constantly adjusting the out put either on the flash or camera body to get what I want.

I almost never crop except for tilt or composition, and that's rarely.

Some day, I'll get a twin flash.

Some more florals as the only bugs I've been seeing have been dead.

Here are a couple of uncropped shots of tillandsia blooms. The tip to tip distance of the biggest yellow bloom is 1/4 inch (6 mm) or a bit less.

Great colors Steve. Those are cool little flowers.

We will get bugs soon enough. ( I hope )

Not sure if the last one counts as a close-up as the small tortoiseshell butterfly was to high up in the tree to get any closer.

All taken with the E-620 and 70-300mm

              Regards Paul.
One day I hope to be the person my dogs think I am.

Counts as far as I'm concerned Paul. Very nice set.

                Thanks for sharing.

                  Abstract-Like

                  E-PL2, ISO 2000, 1/400, f/10 ZD50 + EC20 + MA1 adapter
This is most of a 1-1 shot of a tillisandia flower. It was stretched a bit, but otherwise has no PP other than the RAW conversion built into LR3. I just like it for the shapes and colo[u]rs. Prints great at 19 inches wide.

Re: The Weekly Close Up 1/2011

Nice Steve. Flowers were my first love in close ups and I always appreciate yours.

Here is a orchid that I shot with my extra 8080/ I gave it to my sister and brother in law while they were here and was showing them it's close up abilities.

                    Thanks for looking.

First insect shots with E 5

Insects are still hard to find here but yesterday I was able to find a few.
All shot with the E 5. 35mm, EC 20 and FRF

The fly was shot by holding the camera over my head in LV, not ideal but like I said bugs are scarce yet.

                      Thanks for looking.

Great start to the bug season, Jim, I'm sure they'll be plenty more along soon.

I've no idea what this is, it just grows in our garden. Tried out my very much under-used Jupiter 11a 135mm this evening with a cheap set of extension tubes I've just got for it. Maybe I'll use it a bit more now. I like the bokeh produced by the 12 aperture blades but it's a very long throw focus ring and a pig to focus, even in magnified live view. Maximum f4 aperture doesn't help, either, but I think it is worth persevering.

I think it is a perfectly good lens myself John. Nice bokeh, good detail rendering, good color. Nothing to complain about really.

I mainly stick to the ZD lenses but the few OM's I have can do some sweet macros without a lot of effort or expense. Start tossing in the other brands that are equally nice and it becomes so many lenses and so little time to shoot.

With the good weather we're having lots of creepies are starting to appear.

Wouldn't get closer (with the closest possible distance of the 50-200 on E5).
