Wow Raj, that spider looks dangerous! If I remember correctly from my biology lessons all spiders have eight eyes.

Edit. I looked it up, and most spiders have eight eyes, but there are species with fewer eyes, and some with no eyes at all.

Small wonder that they easily spot a big Olympus eye looking at them
....must look for one that doesn't have any eyes.

Re: The Weekly Close Up 21/2009

Wow guys, great shots. Thank you for keeping the WCU alive while I was on break.

Not much to shoot here in the winter but I did find this ladybug on shady side of the house.

It wasn't moving, so I picked the leaf it was on for a better angle. The warmth from my hand must have perked it up.

I had placed some roses out hoping to attract some bugs, so I put the ladybug in one to warm in the sun.

        first it warmed one wing

        then both wings

then it was warm enough to fly away from the rose

        All done with the E 3, 50mm, EC 20, srf-11

        Thanks for looking

        Jim

              A spider with no eyes?

              Would that be a spder?

                  Some creature..
An insect - with wings - and a top shell shaped like aircraft wings with a trailing tail. Cant even guess what it is ,
but i got this shot on the paving outside my door - to the naked eye It looked like a thorn
that was just lying around (roughly 3mm in size)..... until i saw it move (a sort of flutter/vibration)
                  - had to take a very very close look to realise that it was an insect: used the 35mm and really close to get this shot.

At times it would sort of turn turtle and would be unable to do anything but kick its legs and try to get back to the
upright position (that's how i realized that the top structure was a somewhat hard/rigid shell.

chances are that this "thorn" bites when attacked
