Yeah, the first one is my biggest and smartest bird. She's pretty tough as well, although not the top hen in the pecking order.
The second is my sweetheart right now. She has some sort of palsy, like Parkinsons or something,... I think from sitting on the nest too long in the heat, and not taking care of herself like she should have. That's why her head's kind of tilted.

Thanks Bear, thanks Ned, thanks Andy ... i sort of like that picture too - can't pinpoint why though. - The woman was most co-operative by not looking at the camera even though i was just three feet away.

Gary... the gods have really played favourites with the birds in Australia - can never find such bright colours out here

Feels like there's sadness in her eyes. Notice how the eyes reflect what she looks at... The intensity of her expression makes the shot work. It's also a closer portrait than those of the men you posted, which helps the viewer link with her.

Thanks Sony.. i think i get your point about the eyes and its connection..
Even Bears' comment on the other 'face pics' about 3/4 view makes a lot of sense to me...The next lot i shoot is bound to be "all eyes" and closer ones.
                      Thanks Guys.

Great shots - the naturalistic setting helps too.

Nice shots Raj, I especially like the second one. Do you know what type of spider it is.

Andy... the setting might look natural, but its the most un-natural place for a spider:Its the grit finish wall outside the house -all cement and stone. But it does show up as if its some wild terrain
Avion.. I wouldn't really know what type of a spider it is - to me its the one that has been evading getting photographed for all my attempts - there are a few just in my front yard but they seem to spot the camera and scoot faster than any SWD lens. This was the first time that i managed to look it in the eyes (i wonder how many it has ...it seems to be all over) - I wonder if its sticking out its tongue at me.
The wasp/s are also teeming up to build one of their paper hives just outside in the front yard.

                                thanks.
