  • Four Thirds/e-system Group Day Out

    Time for another one?

I will be hosting a FTU/E-System Group day out on Saturday 20th September at the Essex Hot Air Balloon and Kite Festival.

For further information on this event visit www.mpevents.co.uk

Gates open at 12.00 noon, ticket prices TBA. There will be a morning balloon flight at 6.00am, weather permitting, with free entrance. I suggest we meet for this, then go for a coffee somewhere before returning when the gates re-open at noon.

Because of the nature of this event I appreciate that it will probably appeal mainly to fairly local members but all, of course, are very welcome. It's certainly worth a visit even if you cannot make the early balloon flight.

Please let me know if you are interested.

Here are a few pics from last year's event:-

    Hi John,

This sounds fun. Any idea how much the tickets are likely to be and is there any chance in having a go in one of the balloons?

      Hi Julia,

Ticket prices have not yet been announced and I can't remember what they were last year. I don't think balloon flights are an option, it's more of a visual experience, although some arrangement might be possible by contacting the organisors in advance.

It is an event suitable for a familly day out as well as photography, as apart from balloon and kite displays there will be a funfair and children's activity and entertainment area suitable for ages up to 14.

I will keep an eye on the website for updates and post ticket price info as soon as it's available.

      Cheers,

        John -
I enjoy your posts. The word "kites" caught my eye. Here are some photos of a kite festival from a very different part of the world. Our county has such low population density it usually rounds off to "people per sq mi = 0". This event is as much a community get-together as a kite fest.
I don't hold these photos up as examples of great photography, but perhaps they capture the spirit of the event. Most taken with E-500. Some with Fuji s6000.
The location is Whitewater Mesa, Glenwood, New Mexico, USA.
        Best wishes, David

          Hi David,

You sure have plenty of room in NM to fly those kites and this looks like a fun event.

I just love the pirate ship kite, my 10 year old daughter would go crazy over that. But the kite that really made me laugh was the stockings and suspenders (your links will get plenty of hits now!) which is really cool.

          Thanks for posting.

P.S. Would you happen to have the website address of the company that supplies those pirate ship kites? My daughter has just come into the room and gone crazy at the sight of that kite and is now remorselessly begging for one!

            Cheers,

Re: Four Thirds/e-system Group Day Out

John, the description to search, that yields the desired kite, is
72" Long 3D Nylon Pirate Ship ultra x kite
The tail is included in the 72" length; it's not really a giant. However, a cautionary comment from the main organizer: "Flying the pirate ship isn't like flying a delta. It takes skill and patience."
I only get hits for selling to USA. Perhaps that's due to "inches" length, or my IP address.
Tis the season for kites; I hope you can find one.
              Best wishes, David

Just a tiny bit more than a year ago several of us got together in London at the British Museum. Ok we have missed an opportunity for an anniversary reunion, but it seems a shame that we can't have another London Group day out...

The BM have opened up the window so the public can all get this shot now

                  So ! Anyone interested

Why not? Rather than central London, what about Docklands/Canary Wharf?

It's a great place for photography, but you do need to get permission as the whole site is Private Property

When I go there I go to Canada Tower and get permission from the Security Office. I don't know how they would react to a group session.

                          Andy,

I knew you would be on board for this.

Erith, that's close to Crossness Pumping Station, always wanted to go there...

Agree completely! Unfortunately, Crossness' weekend opening days are restricted this year (because of the works they've got Lottery funding for) and are 28 June, 19 July & 23 August (and the engines won't be 'in steam' on 19 July).
