  • HELP! Budget flash for my G3

    Hi,
Can anyone reccommend a 'budget' priced flash unit that will work ok with my G3, as the cost of genuine Panasonic flash units seem expensive to me.

    Thanks in advance.

I use a Nissin on my E-510 and it is good for MFT too. It is less expensve than the Oly flashes. I have been very happy with mine.

Hi, does anyone able to advice all the 3rd party brands on flash that can be used in Lumix G3? So far I only aware of Nissin and Metz.

If you want dedicated control functionality - that's about it, but Nissin and, especially, Metz are great brands, the former being affordable and the latter being very good value for a feature-rich solution. You can use cheap non-dedicated flash units as well, but there is a small danger that really old flash units may require excessive voltage durability in the camera's triggering circuitry - in other words if you are very unlucky the flash might damage the camera.

Thanks, Ian. Seems like there are few options for us to choose from the 3rd party market. I just ordered a Metz 50 AF-1 Mecablitz (Panasonic hot shoe mount) and still waiting for it to arrive. I really hope it is not too big. I opted Metz 50 over Nissin di466 because I needed slightly more powerful flash and I read that Metz has shorter recycling time.

I have also opted Metz over Panasonic FL500 because I learnt that the FL500 does not support AF Assist on the G-series cameras. Since Metz too does not support the AF Assist and half the price, naturally I go for Metz. Based on reviews, Metz seem to interface well with the Lumix G-series cameras. Just for knowledge sake, does Olympus FL50 supports AF Assist on their Oympus Pen cameras?

          Thanks
          Robin
