  • EPL-1 remote

    Hi,

just to let everyone know, maybe even the Tekkie Guys at Olympus,
that the suggested wired remote unit for the Pen series DOES NOT WORK on the EPL-1.

This is contrary to what I was told on the 'phone when I contacted the Olympus Technical Centre, after getting no advice from Olympus UK Customer Support !

I tried it out in my local, well 45 miles away Olympus Specialist Dealer who could not believe it either, even making sure the remote itself was ok by fitting it into an ordinary EP1 and taking a photo with it

So there we are...maybe an update or modification by a firmware update might ( fingers etc crossed ) be the answer

I'll wait to see what happens...............or not !

Hope this helps before you buy one.

    Re: EPL-1 remote

With my research around the web during the few hours before purchasing the E-PL1 a couple of days ago - there were several posts that stated that there is NO remote fucntionality with the E-PL1. So it muct just have been that person that you contacted, being confused.

For me a remote doesn't matter anyway. I purchased a couple for my E series cameras, but virtually never use them. Nice thing about the E-PL1 is that it has Self Timer functionality as well as the Anti Shock that I use all of the time with my E series bodies - - - although I haven't investigated exactly what the purpose is being there is not a mirror that needs to be stabilized after it has moved out of the way (the reason that Anti Shock is used with my E-3 and E-510).

      Re: EPL-1 remote

Unfortunately in the specs web page for the E-PL1 (Olympus Australia) http://www.olympus.com.au/component/...,69/task,spec/ shows this in the listing:-
"Remote Cable Release - RM-UC1 (optional accessory)"
      & not in the manual.

You will also find that the owners manual specs pages for the E520 does not include it in its listing but does in the web specs page & it works.

I was hoping it might have been a repeat of the same thing. Not so! Just misinformation on the web page for the E-PL1.

I'm not intending to get one anyway (spent too much already), but Olympus needs to remove misleading information (for the cable release) or update the firmware if the hardware is there.

Ian posted this for the following thread
Re: Olympus Master 2.2 and Studio 2.3 released

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been told that the E-PL1 does work with a wireless release (presumably the RM-1 ir remote?). This is confusing because the E-P1 and E-P2 don't. I'm not at the office where my cameras are (yes, I should have a camera with me all the time, doh! ) but when I get back later I will try an RM-1 with my E-PL1 and let you know if it works.

Ian might like to pass on his personal verification of the above for those still needing the remote function.

I have an Infrared Remote Control for my E-510. The thing that I don't understand in trying to use it with the E-PL1 to see if it works - - - how do you activate it. With the E-510 there is a setting for the remote in with the frame rate and self timer. When I check the E-PL1, I see no such option.

          Re: EPL-1 remote

Shame. Looks like it's timer function only for the E-PL1.
Also it only has a self timer lamp on the front & no infrared receiver anyhow.
Use it the way it is & enjoy it (glass half full, not half empty).
