  • Memory Cards for E-M1 Mk. II

I just ordered an E-M1 Mk. II from getolympus.com, and much to my surprise, it shipped out today! (It was listed as backordered for at least a couple of weeks . . .) Needless to say, I'm excited. I'm also looking at getting a new memory card or two to take advantage of the camera's capabilities. I know that it has two SD card slots, one UHS-I and one UHS-II, but I haven't been able to find information on the write speed of the camera for either slot.

I did some online shopping for memory cards, figuring that I would get a UHS-II card to get the best out of the camera's high-speed burst modes. But, again to my surprise, I discovered that UHS-II cards come in different speeds. Does anyone know what speed is needed to maximize the camera's burst speed and number of images that can be captured in a burst? Will a faster card (e.g. a 2000X vs. 1000X) allow for a longer burst? Will it just clear the buffer faster after a burst? Or will any UHS-II card meet or exceed the camera's write speed?

Also, I don't expect to do much video, but curious to know what speed I need for the best 4K video quality. And how much space does 4K take up on the card per minute of recording?

    Hi Hal -

Congratulations on your new OM D EM 1 mkll.

Anne and I use in slot 1 Lexar 8GB SDHC 300x 45MB/s premium series. We find this card writes quickly when using short quick bursts.

In slot 2 Lexar Professional 32GB SDHC 11 1000x 150MB/s . I haven't used the video mode very much as yet but found this card fast enough.

Others may well use larger and faster speeds but those above are nicely priced from Amazon and others.

Enjoy your camera we really like using ours.
