  • Cleaning procedure??

    Hi all!

This might be a stupid question, but I'll take the risk...I have an Olympus E-500, but decided to try a newer Olympus and since I'm very pleased with my E-500 I decided to go with a (second-hand)E-520.
Now. When I turn the E-520 off, there's a little sound from the camera (like a little drum-roll). I don't know if this is some kind of a cleaning process, or if there's something weird with the camera. I bought the camera from a re-seller so there's a 3 month guarantee.

    Regards,
    /Paul

    Re: Cleaning procedure??

It's the IS resetting itself at power off.

To check, turn off IS and you shouldn't hear it.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

Now there was me thinking it was the camera clapping to tell me I'd taken some great pictures.

        Hi -

Or shuddering at what it recorded... :-)

Seriously, it is the lens resetting to a default setting so that when the camera is turned back on, it doesn't need to ask the lens what settings it has.

Thanks a lot for your answers! The problem is solved...I turned off the IS, and killed the little drummer boy...

          Once again ...Thanks!

But don't neglect IS - it's beneficial. Just ignore the vibration at power-off; it is perfectly normal. Later models have a much higher frequency vibration that is also quieter.
