  • Calling all E-510 users!

I know there aren't very many of you out there yet as the E-510 has only been on sale for a few weeks. But I'm sure we are all very interested to hear how you are getting on!

Just pick out my name at the end of the month for that E510 and I'll be happy to let you know how I get on with it Certainly seems like a nice looking and high spec model. Will look forward to reading your article later today too, esp on the anti shake facility.

Did we ever come to a conclusion over the lens/body debate?

I received the 510 a few days ago, and have been playing with it quite a bit. So far:
        • Love the image stabilization, which is why I bought it.
        • Don't like the live preview, compared to the E-330. I liked the extra image sensor (A mode) on the E-330, and used it for macro photography and over my head shots. I also liked the fact that I could swivel out the display.

If they come out with a new model in the E-3x0 series with image stabilization, I might have to buy it!

It's interesting, a toy compared to my E1, but fun. I hate where the Fn button is though .... too easy to hit with my thumb while shooting, ugg.

Have you tried re-programming the function button?

Is it possible to deactivate that button ? .... doesn't seem of any use except to enlarge stuff on the screen ... which really isn't any help anyway. It sure messes up your shots when it's accidentally activated.

Yes, the Fn button can be switched off completely - see the menu option in the first 'toolkit' menu (the spanner or wrench symbol with the 1 next to it).

It can also be re-programmed as a depth of field preview, one touch white balance, etc.

Thanks Ian, that's great ... I've turned it off. I hated the location, was always hitting it in the middle of a series of shots. Haven't spent much time with the manual/menu yet ;>)

                        Re: Calling all E-510 users!

I have recently bought the E-510 mainly because I was not satisfied with the E-500's low ISO (yes low) performance especially in pastel sky colours. The E-510's performance looks promising.

                        Regards,

Hi Henk ... I've only had the 510 for a week or two, but it's fun. Hard not to compare it to the E1 which is super.
                          Have fun

                            Ian,
More than pleased with the E510. Have a 36 to 360 Z lens and really appreciatede IS. Can take reasonable hand held pictures with shutter of 80 with about 90% reliability. Aslo the ISO 800 and 1600 are now useful when needed. I use Neat Image to manage the grain in dark areas and highly recommend it when it is needed. For still shots of find live view very helpful. I hear complaints about Fn button but I believe this is not a problem on 510 as it was on my 500. I have set the camera so Fn give me WB setting.

                              Hi,

I'm very pleased with my E-510. I'm an amateur and don't envision needing a "pro" level body. Like others, the image stabilization was the main factor for me. I'll probably keep my E-500 as a backup and/or use it along with the E-510 when I want to have 2 different lenses readily available.

I'm also pleased with the quality and size of the new kit lenses. I'm looking forward to the availability of the 70-300mm zoom.
