  • 4/3 lense suppliers

I am trying to expand my system and am struggling to find 4/3 lenses for my Olympus E-410. Can anyone suggest some suppliers or maybe an adapter that will increase my options. I am in the UK. Thanks.

Interestingly, Olympus top brass have reassured me that the status of the current Four Thirds lens range is - IN PRODUCTION.

Demand is pretty low now; there is no doubt about that. However, the E-5 caused an increase in high-end lens sales that caused additional manufacturing and who knows what will happen... whenever!

I have this crazy idea that an E-7 DSLR might still happen, perhaps because of some of the slides that were leaked earlier this year or just the thought that one beautiful system would be complete with a DSLR. Olympus is a very unpredictable company.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, Oly and Pana lenses are SO good (and "relatively" inexpensive), combined with the somewhat smaller 4/3 market, there are fewer 3rd party options for lenses than for other systems. I wish it were better.

Welcome to the forum, mate .

As someone else asked, what sort of shooting do you want to do?

Whatever that might be, there is a thriving second hand market in most of these items. I just recently bought an 11-22 lens s/h from a seller in the USA. And a s/h circular polariser for it from a seller about 20 kms away from me here in Melbourne ...

Perhaps you need to enquire from people local to you where to look for such items - either B&M stores or on-line.

eBay is good. So are the Buy & Sell forums both here and on www.fourthirdsphoto.com . Just a couple of suggestions to be going on with .
            regards, john from Melbourne, Australia

I've built most of my system through the second hand market (9-18, 14-54mkI, 35 macro, 70-300). I've noticed that prices on ebay are often higher than those from Ffordes, so tend to stay with them. That's not to say that there aren't bargains to be had. I bought my e-3 for £115 on ebay! you just have to judge when the price is OTT.

Plus one for second hand lenses a sigma 30mm 1.4, Olympus 14-45mk1, pancake 25mm, adapter and legacy lenses all the way.
Bolted onto E1, E300, E420, and a cheapish way to see if its what you want.
Then backup cameras against future obsolescence

If you have lenses from your 35mm days, depending on the lens mount, one may often find adapters, usually at reasonable prices.

                    Re: 4/3 lense suppliers

Four Thirds lenses remain officially 'in production' and are being held in stock by Olympus Europe, for example. One of our http://e-group.uk.net/hire customers recently purchased a brand new 150mm f/2 from a UK dealer. It was ordered by the dealer and the customer received it two days later. I understand some 30 or so 150mm f/2 lenses are currently in stock at Olympus Europe.

Ffordes are currently listing 87 new and used 4/3 lenses.
