    I think it was a simple matter of older technology. Most of Zuiko's new lenses now have the circular blades, but their older ones have the polygonal aperture. The 14-54mm is quite an old lens, having been the kit lens for the first E-1.

    Personally, I like the old polygonal bokeh shape. =D I think it looks more fashionable on the lights, though perhaps not as smooth and appealing on far-away backgrounds... That said, I would still prefer to have the new circular aperture for the brightness and reduced vignetting.

      I think seeing polygon bokeh is a rare chance, it is just like splitting hair. I can't see the polygon bokeh in the attached picture. The two 100% crops are from the top of the main picture. They all look round to me and it was taken with the 14-54mm Mark I.

        to joeletx: great picture. I saw it before, but didn't reply.

        You can't see the polygon bokeh whit the lens at 3.5 54mm.
        Wide open it is always circular.

          Oddly enough, the zoomed-out view looks polygonal to me, but not the close-ups. xD
