  • Prime lens for landscape work

Suggestions please for a prime lens for my E-M5 (edited)for landscape work.
My first thoughts were the micro four thirds 12mm f2 or the 17mm f1.8.
I want a reasonably fast lens to allow some IR photography.
    Cheers

I find the mZD12 to be a brilliant lens and a 24mm equivalent FOV is quite useful for landscapes.
    But...
Now that we have the mZD12-40 f2.8 in the pipeline, I'd really consider that one, as I believe it would be a more versatile lens.

You obviously mean your E-M5 then & not an E-5?

That certainly looks like a worthwhile zoom lens.

        SLR Magic Hyperprime 12mm T1.6.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

Ive been using the PL 25/1.4 for some time and found it quite useful.
Contrary to popular belief I think wides less necessary for landscape work

of course a lens like this can also be put to portrait use too

Thank you to all who replied. I do have my 12-50mm f3.5-6.3 that I might try in the meantime.

That lens is a good place to start with as you can see with this pano image that was cropped from one frame using the 12-50 lens (on the E-M5) at 12mm (held up against the glass inside the restaurant on the hill or slag heap in Broken Hill).

For wide angle use you could also use the M9-18 lens too, unless you are particularly looking for a bright prime with with a shallow DoF.
