Oh here we are and here we are and here we go
All aboard and we're hittin' the road
Here we go
Bloggin' all over the world!

All I can say is I'd better hold on tight, I'm frightened I might fall off!

Being a little naïve about these things I'm not totally sure about the difference between a forum post and a blog entry. As I understand it, I should still use the forum when I want to start a discussion but use my blog when I want to keep the focus more on what I want to say, when I have a message to deliver or when I have a tip to share or some information that might be of interest.

Does that mean more of me rambling on? Oh dear, I hope this new blog feature comes with a snooze button! However, Ian seemed quite keen that I should give it a go, so here we are. I'll do my best to maintain the status quo, but if I should sometimes confuse the subtle differences between a forum post and a blog entry I'll be relying upon Ian for guidance – and your comments for feedback (if you can stay awake).

But now the real problem, what do I write about? Ian can fill his blog with useful tips based on his vast technical knowledge. Robert's blog is bound to be compulsive viewing, full of technique and “how this was done” type tips illustrated with superb examples of his work. Unfortunately I have neither Ian's knowledge or Rob's expertise so I'll have to think carefully how I can carve my own niche.

Fortunately, I seem to be a bit of a wordsmith and I believe this has stood me in good stead in the past, so hopefully I'll be able to contribute with some general musings about photography, camera equipment and other related topics, with maybe the occasional rant. For me, once I get over the shock of what I've let myself in for, I suppose it's an opportunity for self indulgence, to focus on topics and issues that are important to me and sometimes, perhaps, bare my sole, share my hopes and fears, my successes and failures.

How often I'll post in my blog I've yet to decide; at this stage I'm not going to commit to a daily update (sorry to disappoint any insomniacs who thought this might be the cure for which they've longed) but we'll see how it goes. I'd better stop before this first post descends into total verbosity, using an awful lot of words to say absolutely nothing in particular. If I'm not careful I might get poached to be a politician, I can probably say less in more time than even Peter Mandelson! Instead I'll start thinking of something mildly constructive that I might say in my next post. If you have stuck with me so far you have my deepest sympathy!
