47 minutes to update E-5

Thank goodness we all use a fully charged battery when updating.

I had read somewhere it should take approximately five to seven minutes. Imagine my thoughts when twenty minutes had past. I was using the stand alone 'Olympus Digital Camera Updater' for the first time. In the past updating camera or lens with Studio presented no problems.

After thirty five minutes of downloading I had a small twinge of panic, this was controlled though by the thought the led kept flashing away on the modem. The screen remained unlit through the whole process until two minutes from finishing the familiar two circles appeared on the screen and said wait until OK appeared. All is well.

I'm not sure if the site was busy or my internet speed was slow this evening.

The reason for this post is not to panic if faced with something similar.

I should have had a big panic What would have happened if you interrupted the downloading believing that for example "it was not responding"? Wow Regards, Horacio

I've tried updating and now it seems after Oly "fixed" my camera the update software no longer detects the camera via the USB, I can download photos but not update anything "sigh" I'll be sending it back to get the IS sorted anyway and now they can fix this as well (even though it wasn't broken to begin with).

I find the Oly repair center a very scary place.

I used the standard oly update program and it only took 3 min to update my E5, so maybe you should check out you internet conection.

I really wish Oly had the facility to just download the updates to your computer and then locally update the firmware from the hard-disk..this way that nagging feeling of bricking the body/lenses would not be there.

I had read elsewhere other users had downloaded the update and it had only taken anywhere between 3 to 7 minutes.

I am just about to have a word the ISP.

Like Panasonic, except there it's even easier. Download to SD card, put card in camera.

BTW, you can up date Oly lenses exactly that way, using a Panasonic body.

Which is exactly what Panasonic owners were able to do, and indeed did, when Panny released the firmware update that prevented the use of non-OEM batteries.

Barr1e, I just updated mine the other night and it took 20 minutes. Nothing showed up on the screen for 18 minutes, just the twirling circle on the monitor. I'm glad I read your responce or I would have been more worried.
