Thank you Raj. Rust on lenses can be knocked off, mold and scratches are what I worry about.

I look forward to everyone's images this year.

Re: The Weekly Close Up 2012

Welcome back Jim.You know I can't resist a bit of macro.

Just a couple from the other week with the ZD50mm and the OM50 reversed on the front.

Look forward to seeing some more.

Re: The Weekly Close Up 2012

Wow Andy, those look great.
I'll have to get a reversing ring someday. The 50mm and 35mm set ups are so easy to use that I get lazy and never take the Raynox 250 or OM 20mm f2 out to play.

Re: The Weekly Close Up 2012

These images are amazing. I sure would appreciate a little more information on your rig. I have an old 50mm Macro lens left over from my film days when I used to shoot with an OM-1. I have tried using it on my E-300 and now E-3 but because it becomes difficult to see when you stop the lens down and it is totally manual focus and amerature control it is useful only about wide open which gives extremely shallow DOF. As I understand you have reversed this lens on a Zuiko digital 50mm F2.0 macro probably coupled to one of the Olympus E-series bodies. How do you light? Is the reversed OM macro always shot open so you can see? The 50mm macro is my next lens purchase. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi

This is the set up

Although in this I've got the EC14 on as well. The OM sits on the front and is completely passive as there is no control from the camera. You can shoot all modes but I normally am in either A or manual.
The ZD is set somewhere between F11-14.Focus is set at about 1 foot as if you set it any closes you get a lot of vignetting. It's then a case of moving yourself to get focus but you end up taking lot of images that are not keepers as the working distance and Dof are very small.
I light these with an FL36 or natural light. One day I'll afford a ring or twin flash.
Hope this helps.

Re: The Weekly Close Up 2012

Hi,

I am new to the site and new to these type of images.

One thing is certain I will give MACRO a chance in the near future - thanks to these images. I am really impressed.

Do get well soon and keep posting more images to get the motivation to get at it.

Re: The Weekly Close Up 2012

Thanks. When my new ZD 50mm Macro comes in I'm going to try this. Otherwise I was going to assign my old OM Macro to the antique equipment pile I have left over from my film days. Hate to throw the stuff away, but not worth anything to sell so it just sits. One more question if you don't mind. Where do you get the double threaded step down ring that allows you to attach these two lenses together?

Re: The Weekly Close Up 2012

Wendell

Don't go tossin that old stuff out, a macro is a macro and I hate to see a lens not be used.

I started shooting with Oly OM gear 30 years ago and believe me that glass can be spectacular. A OM 50mm f 1.8 was my low light lens until I got the 50mm f 2 and to this day I still enjoy taking it out for a shoot now and then.
Those old macros can be rare commodities too and can fetch a high selling price. My OM 20mm f2 produces magnifications we will never see on a modern lens at 16x life. That's 16x stronger than my 35mm macro and 32x stronger than my 50mm macro. I believe I can safely say the lens has no equal and for me was worth the $700 price tag. ( I have seen them go for $1200)

You should be able to find step down adapters and reversing rings on ebay pretty cheap.
