Exclamation Updates and move to a new and better server

As part of a modernisation programme FTU will be migrated to a new server, hopefully in the next day or so.

After that we are going to update the server operating system to bring our platform up to date. The long term aim is to make the system more secure and more reliable, but the short term cost will be some instability.

We will be updating the forum and the magazine section and there will be more emphasis on expanding the wiki (Knowledge section).

I apologise in advance for any disruption, but this work is essential for us to get back where we belong, at the forefront of all things Four Thirds and Micro Four Thirds!

I will update this thread with more information as I get it.

Thank you all,

Ian

Re: Updates and move to a new and better server

The migration has actually been completed, largely. A snapshot of the server has been copied to the new server and I will be checking it out tomorrow and if all is well a further synchronisation of additional new information from the old server will take place before switching across to make the new server live. There will then be some loss of service while DNS servers around the globe are updated. For some the site will come back online more quickly than for others.

Re: Updates and move to a new and better server

If you've done all that, I have noticed a much faster opening of pages, galleries etc.
Thanks for your hard work making it all happen.

Re: Updates and move to a new and better server

Ah - no, not yet

But I have also noticed that the site loads faster and opening large image files, for example, is pretty quick. The new server should be as fast or even faster.
