auto focus sometimes

hi on my em1 it seems to have decided to only auto focus in the auto mode as soon as it is put into P S or A it wont auto focus and the shutter fires whenever you press the button ive been through the menu but cant find anything so if anyone has any ideas I would nbe eternally grateful

Try a factory reset in the menus.

In earlier models (E-M5/HLD6 grip & E30 DSLR/HLD4 grip) that is what would occur if the attached battery grip was set to Lock on its switch while unknowingly pressing the portrait shutter button. It was a bit disconcerting until I worked out what was happening. That problem was thankfully solved in the E-M1 & HLD-7 grip & so it's interesting those symptoms should occur for you. Were you using an HLD-7 grip (or after-market version)?

no I wasn't using a grip at all the only thing I can think off that was different was that I used a 4/3 lens adapter so if that had any relevance I don't know but a factory reset seems to have cured the problem seemed strange that it would still auto focus in the auto mode
