Re: Infrared modified Olympus E-PL2

Have you checked that your E-PL2 firmware is up to date? If not that might be why the VF4 doesn't work. I haven't checked this myself but I will do later today and let you know.

Does that mean you fixed the problem or your E-PL2 has the latest (1.4) firmware and the VF-4 still doesn't work?

I have an infra-red converted E-PL1, so older than yours, and it works fine with the VF-4, but fw 1.3 was needed to enable the VF-4.

Re: Infrared modified Olympus E-PL2

I got the EPL-2 used and never tested the accessory port before the modification.

Don't know if it is a result of the modification or if it was faulty before...

The small Olympus flash don't work also, it seems like only the VF-2 works...

Re: Infrared modified Olympus E-PL2

Bad luck - my guess is that whoever modified the sensor probably caused the problem.

Re: Infrared modified Olympus E-PL2

Purely out of interest, Lightroom can give a very convincing IR effect using the IR preset. Can't say it's as good as a converted camera but it's still dam good.

I remember you have demonstrated some skill in 'faking' infra red images too, Patrick

Yes I have from time to time, you may remember at one time years ago I used a converted Canon 10D lost interesting in IR and sold it. After that I occasionally played with fake IR in photoshop, and other software and followed a number of methods I read about, some very good but not quite good enough. I have found though since trying recently with LUMIX raw files in Lightroom the fake IR to be very good indeed on the right image, but with IR it was always so. Perhaps Adobe have improved the preset, or LUMIX raw files have more IR information or a combination of both, I don't really know. I do know having recently played about again some images I converted looked particularly convincing. I have to say though the results look more like film IR than a converted camera which is very clean and sharp, in contrast to film IR which tended to have a soft glow and grain or noise in digital terms. This would mean photographers that have never used film and certainly not IR film may find the fake IR a little disapionting.

It would be nice to see some of your latest efforts

I had some good results with my converted Pen E-PL1 to start with but recent efforts haven't been as good - I am probably doing something wrong with the processing!
