ORF files on Android

Came across a useful android App for tablet use..

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...rawdroid&hl=en

My idea was to use the tablet for viewing ORF files in the field when traveling...
(via usb card reader or directly uploaded into the tablet memory)

Just tried it out..
the tablet is the ARCHOS 80 G9.

http://www.archos.com/products/gen9/...try=us&lang=en

Some of you might find it useful..

Regards

Re: ORF files on Android

I have the same tablet (Does yours actually work properly!? ) I also have a Samsung Galaxy Note (just upgraded to ICS today!).

I will certainly be trying the app out.

I haven't been very impressed with the quality of photo editing apps so far though.

Properly....No.
Startup problems..sometimes i've had to re boot first.
When it does..there's no saying if it's going to thumbnail all files in the folder.
(see "?" thumbnails in pic below)..It can take time to build up all the thumbnails.
To reach the edit-mode ..access is from the three little dots at the bottom menu...edit is transferred to the resident App: "Gallery"
1.

With some basic edit functions...
2.

Raw files do not show full exif data on lens-info..it does in the jpgs that i've exported earlier in LR. edited file on the display...
3.

Edited file from Rawdroid..did some light-fill ..Picture was very dark and shadowy in both #4 and 5...both files were pre-exported and reduced JPG's.
4.

5.

6. This is just a crop that i did.

All those colors stars and tagging (pen) on the bottom right of the screen are partly active..probably awaiting some more development.

Hangs the System very often..but if you are stuck with out a computer in the middle of nowhere..this thing can be made to do some little bit of work at the least.

My initial thought was to just be able to review the files on the card in a larger than in-camera screen to check for non-keepers.

Files stored on the in-built memory / Micro-SD card in the slot are not uncomfortable to access..(fast enough).

**** what i'm not sure of is if the editing is done from the raw-data or the embedded jpg**** will check it out with an oly art-filter file.

Bottom-line..It's not mature enough for flawless field use..too many hiccups.

Regards.

Re: ORF files on Android

I was curious to know how you were getting on with the Archos 80 G9 tablet in particular as it does seem to have a dodgy reputation! My first one was replaced under warranty (it had the infamous screen pressure bubble problem and crashed all the time). The replacement has been much better but really only started to work really reliably after the latest ICS firmware update. I think at one point there was a new firmware update every 10 days.

When I bought it back in December last year the price was very attractive, but I think better alternatives have become more affordable.
