What would really make you unhappy?

The Olympus solution for Four Thirds lens users has been promised but we don't know what it will be in any detail. I recently posted a poll for you to choose from a list of possible styles of solution. We could do with some more votes, incidentally!

Anyway - here is a more direct question; what could Olympus possibly do (in a realistic sense) that you think would be a mistake and even possibly make you frustrated and annoyed?

Remember, we're addressing the needs of photographers who have invested in Four Thirds lenses.

No holds barred - just keep it polite!

Ian

Re: What would really make you unhappy?

Well, they may drop the system and switch to something else.. oh wait...they did that already!

They've dropped 4/3 line for so long, that most people left it and many shops are offering m4/3 gear only. Can it really be worse? Only thing I can think of is no support for older RAWs in newer versions of RAW-converters (but that would be more problem with Adobe and others, rather than Olympus).

Understandable but I am trying to focus on the camera that we are all expecting

Not have a fully articulated screen on the new camera.I miss that on my OMD ie for shooting in portrait using live view.

Re: What would really make you unhappy?

I'm not expecting anything, it's 5 years since Olympus got any of my money. My next camera could well be a FF Canon body to make use of my collection of OM primes.

I'll see what's available for my HG and SHG glass if my 4/3 bodies die.

Re: What would really make you unhappy?

Am I the only one that likes a top panel LCD? I suspect this won't happen on the new camera.

Re: What would really make you unhappy?

andym: Do you mean LCD like most of the top-line DSLRs have? I don't think they will implement that in any new camera, unless it is a "big pro-box" for 4/3 glass. I like that feature too, as I can set all the values and stuff without raising camera to the eye or looking on the back LCD.

Ian: Thinking of a new camera coming, there is one thing that can really make me unhappy. It is the same thing that goes along with PENs and even OMD - too few direct controls (buttons, levers, rollers). Possibly the worst thing they could do is a full touch-screen control with only a shutter release.

Re: What would really make you unhappy?

I wouldn't mind a touch-screen control panel with just a shutter button and an on/off switch. My 4/3 bodies are set up as digital OM2 bodies and have been since I unpacked them, all I need is an on/off switch and a shutter release.

Re: What would really make you unhappy?

I think the biggest thing that Olympus could do to annoy / frustrate their legacy 4/3 users would be to introduce a body that compromises the speed of focus for the lenses.

For myself, it's already too late. I'm going to buy Nikon for my next dSLR. Incidentally, I did pick up an e-pl1 to use as my everyday / snapshot camera recently

Re: What would really make you unhappy?

Just offering a "Sony LA-EA2" type Adapter would be tantamount to announcing the end of the Four Thirds E-System.

Every business knows that it is many times harder to win back a customer than it is to get a new one. Often the new customers are nowhere near as loyal as the existing ones. People are encouraged to "Switch" all manner of providers, so brand loyalty has become a thing of the past.

But they are in the market to sell new lenses and bodies, so providing any solution is something of a shot in the foot...

The best thing they can do is to break with tradition and tell their customers much much more of their developments and future products. Everyone inside the industry knows the vast majority of what's going on anyway, so keeping it all under wraps until a fixed date is just so passť...
