Sony takes a stake in Olympus

Sony is about to take a 10% stake in Olympus becoming the single largest investor. The purpose is to provide Olympus with an urgently needed capital injection. No doubt Sony has its eye on Olympus' technology in the medical business. However, it is reasonable to expect some interchange of technology in imaging. That should be very interesting indeed.

Re: Sony takes a stake in Olympus

If true it would be nice to see a Sony sensor in FT.

Re: Sony takes a stake in Olympus

The subject title of this thread is quite misleading. I have been keeping an eye on these reports and I feel there is a need for some clarity. Olympus does not want to trade independence for financial investment. For this reason, reports consider the Sony deal to be far from guaranteed. Also, the deal centres around Olympus endoscope business, not cameras. I doubt very much if the deal, if it happened, would have any camera business technical/product component impact at all. Although would be keen to see a Sony sensor in an Olympus system camera (assuming there isn't already one ) - the negotiations over this deal have nothing to do with such matters.

I'm sorry, I had not intention of causing dissension. Could the moderators please remove this thread. I don't seem to be able to do it myself.

Re: Sony takes a stake in Olympus

No matter how you want to dress it up, several large companies are circling like Vultures over Olympus. I read that in the business press.

Bob - there is no problem. I just wanted to clarify what you were saying. I'm grateful for you starting this thread
