Re: Suggestions for Panasonic? Let's hear them!

Hi,

I own a gh1 since it was available 3 years ago, pleased with it but I am ready to move to...

The only thing which prevented me from moving to Olympus OM-D is the limited screen motion... Inbody stabilisation is a must specially the 5 Olympus axis

What will be a must when I will replace my GH1:
1 - in body stabilization (OM-D style)
2 - Sony Nex manual focusing aid type system (improved if possible) with single assignable action button
3 - Thethering mode for photo with Adobe LightRoom
4 - Quieter shutter
5 - HDMI output while recording
6 - better designed eyepiece it tears easily when you wear glasses
7 - Stereo sound monitoring via dedicated output while recording film.
8 - electronic level display (horizon, and drop or aim ) in displays)
9 - dedicated remote plug or remote wifi control (inpiration from Samsung...)independant from mic. plug
10 - recording memos attached to photos
11 - naming lenses for non standard ones - vintage - that you can recall when changing lenses and add to IPTC data

I don't care for incorporated flash (always insufficient and useless, a dedicated external one is cheap and always better...

Battery autonomy is not so important it is always better to have 2 than only one slightly more powerfull...

I assume that higher ISOs in good quality will be scheduled as well improved resolution...

Good luck items 1 to 9 are major...

Re: Suggestions for Panasonic? Let's hear them!

How can I switch off the auto-shut down on the time exposure (4 mins I believe) so that I am free to take longer time exposures on star scapes for example ?

Cheers

Panasonic Lumix G2.
Want to know how to over-ride this camera's annoying insistence on switching to sleep mode after 4 mins. Even on time exposure in manual mode using a remote trigger. Makes star-scapes etc. nigh on impossible

Thanks

Re: Suggestions for Panasonic? Let's hear them!

A great camera could be made even better by re introducing the eye sensor [its a pain in the butt not having one], multi aspect ratio sensor like the GH2, so IQ stays high whichever ratio you use. More of a non slip surface on the camera body.

The touch screen menu needs modifying and made simpler and easier, The thumb wheel is not easy to turn as its too thin and not prominant enough. It needs to be thicker and rubberised for better grip.

Bring back some of the direct action buttons. Panasonic must not fall into the trap of designing cameras that are style over substance, if your clever you can have both!

Re: Suggestions for Panasonic? Let's hear them!

I am a GH1 owner with 14-140mm and 20mm lenses and here is my list.

- Orientation Sensor
- Ability to have different aspect ratio for different orientations. Eg. 16:9 in landscape and 4:3 in portrait.
- Digital level
- XGA or greater EVF (OLED?)
- True bulb exposure where you don't have to hold the shutter button down.
- Sony style sweep panorama
- In camera HDR
- Remove built-in flash
- Create an external small articulating flash
- Noiseless aperture and auto-focus for 20mm
- New dial or dpad for menus

There are some great pointers in this thread - keep them coming. Don't forget to mention particular aspects that are fairly unique to Panasonic that you really like too

Re: Suggestions for Panasonic? Let's hear them!

As I said its a great camera that could be made even better, but I suspect there is only so much more that Panasonic can improve on before the price becomes too high. Panasonic will certainly want to keep the G3 affordable, so my guess is, improvements will be limited but i'm sure welcome.
The metering and focussing on the G3 are superb functions that even high end DSLR's struggle to equal.
