Once again looking through my archives I'm just spell bound at the quality of the pics taken with the 7-14, 14-35 and 35-100 Zuiko SHG lenses I used to own. The photos are unreal, the detail, contrast, and just general "rightness" (I know that's not a real word but it describes best what I mean) is captivating. Until you experience it you have no idea just how much a truly top notch lens can make a photo just come to life.
If anyone ever has the opportunity to get one of these lenses, even just for a while, particularly the 14-35 and 35-100, seize the moment and try them. I keep contemplating getting those 2 again but then remember the size and bulk of them and the impracticality of carrying them, but I'm so glad to have had the experience of using them, they are indeed very special lenses.
And here I thought you were angry about something... :-)
The 35-100 has been on my short list for quite a while now while I figure out where to find one to do some hands-on testing (not the easiest thing to do!) and above all, how to afford one.
Let alone justify it to the wife...I guess my kids don't really have to go to college, right?
I recently picked up a 14-35 and it is incredible. I use it on m43 bodies. It's a little slow focusing but it doesn't bother me at all. My subjects don't move around much.
My real rant is when are/is Oly going to come out with the m43 versions of these same SHG lens: 8mm, 7-14 (Panny already has a good version though), 14-35/2, 35-100/2, 150/2 and 300/2.8. I would even like to include the 11-22 in this group of reworked lens.
They won't, well not fast zooms anyway, unfortunately a fast zoom needs to be big, they may be smaller than the 4/3 versions but not much, but there is no reason they couldn't produce SHG zooms with a slower aperture say f2.8 - 4.0 to keep the size and cost down, the same IQ but just a bit slower than the 4/3 versions.
It seems the wide angle lenses can be made much smaller in m4/3 guise but the long zooms don't benefit much in terms of size reduction so a a m4/3 300 2.8 would still be massive.
Panasonic is coming up with constant f/2.8 aperture versions, and I think that will be plenty fast enough for Micro Four-Thirds. As you say, we don't want to go unnecessarily big with such a small system and the constant f/2 aperture is excessive if size/weight is at all a concern. Nobody else makes them that fast in a zoom lens but Olympus...

Maybe Ned, but then nobody has a smaller sensor than four thirds so that extra stop (F2) off aperture helps you get the same DOF as f2.8 on a APC-C sensor.
