I understand the site needs ads, and I don't mind top banners and ads on the right-hand side, but on a small screen left side ads are a pain. Scrolling down the page - the left column is just a white space. On the desk pc, with a wide screen it doesn't matter.
For comparison - take a look at the BBC site, they also use ads, but in a much less oppressive way.
