Re: Raw support now in Lightroom

That's annoying - no support for CS2 (despite it still being an officially supported Adobe product, and still within it's support lifecycle), so it looks like I have a compulsory £160 "Adobe-tax" to pay if I want to continue to edit images in photoshop without the pain of using another app to convert them to a readable format first.

Indeed!

I'd recommend getting Lightroom if you don't need the upgrade to CS3. Then you can export from Lightroom in DNG and use your CS2 RAW converter from then on.

Good idea - now why didn't I think of that?

I was thinking about getting Lightroom anyway, and as it's the same price as the CS3 upgrade... sorted! Adobe get their £160 off me, I get improved functionality and workflow - everybody wins

Kinda defeats the object of having Lighroom dontcha think, when ACR in LR is far superior to the one in CS2.

However getting LR would be the route I would take. I find I use PS much less than before

Well, I was suggesting using Lightroom for the RAW processing and then exporting in a format as optimal in quality as possible for any required editing in Photoshop. DNG seemed to be the best intermediate transfer format, but I suppose exporting from Lightroom as a 16-bit TIFF would be just as good and less cumbersome at the Photoshop end.

Re: Raw support now in Lightroom

I now use Lightroom to import and catalogue my files. The variety of tools in Lightroom make it so much easier to use than ACR 4.1. I particularily like the ability to select an area for adjustment by just pointing to the area on the image. I still use PS for complicated operations like layers, dodging etc. I just use the Edit in external application function which creates a PSD for the interim operation, so there is no need to go through the export routine.
