Arrow Digital Zuiko 14-35mm f/2.0 SWD image samples

Here we have a dozen sample images, both RAW and JPEG taken with the new Olympus Digital Zuiko 14-35mm f/2.0 SWD standard zoom. This lens is not cheap, but is it good value?

Very, very impressive. I'm not a huge fan of wide zooms, but I might have to make an exception.

BTW, who is the gentleman holding the camera at the top of the article?

Steve

I see from our stats that plenty of people are downloading the samples but nobody is commenting here about them

Come on - let us know what you think!

Ian,

First post so hello and thakyou for the samples. They look very impressive and sharp across the field even wide open. I am seriously thinking of buying this lens for some social photography work, I have the 35-100, but this lens would work better in tighter situations.

Very impressive!

I think the problem is that having seen the images most people are in their attics looking for things to sell and so too busy to comment

Yes, it should be great for that application. And although a big lens, it's a lot smaller and lighter than the 35-100

I have done some A3+ prints from of some of the images and they look even better printed. This is possibly the best E-series lens I've used yet.

Ian,
Thankyou for the feedback, I am very pleased with the quality of the 35-100, and if this optic is close in quality it sounds great. Will be looking to use it for three quarter length portraits wide-open.

The 35-100 is optically superb. A review of this lens is coming here soon. It can be used wide open

The 14-35 is in the same league, optically (as is the 90-250), but it also has the advantage of SWD.

Incidentally, the 12-60 lens hood was criticised for being a bit cheap. It is lightweight, but the plastic a strong type. Well, the 14-35's hood is also lightweight, but it is felt-lined (like the 35-100) and has a hatch so you can access and rotate a polarising filter if attached.

77mm polariser - that's going to hurt my wallet!
