Arrow Olympus E-420 DSLR revealed

Olympus updates the E-410 DSLR, adding continuous live view autofocus, an updated sensor, plus the option of a 25mm f/2.8 'Tatsuno' quality ultra-compact 'pancake' lens. The result is the Olympus E-420.

Re: Olympus E-420 DSLR revealed

Nice one. I really liked the E400's size – almost a carry everywhere camera.
But I think the pancake lens will be finding its way into my bag.
Any news on price for the lens?

Re: Olympus E-420 DSLR revealed

The comparison article has it down at only 189.99!
As long as it performs as least as well as the kit lenses, I think it should be quite a seller.

That looks a good price makes the kit price tempting for anyone wanting a second body. I've also notice the 'retro' erc leather cases mentioned blimey at this rate we might get a digital Pen update after all!

Hmmm, interesting. Looks pretty good value too.

That little 25mm looks nice.

Very interesting indeed - is the sensor identical to the E-3 sensor?

This information isn't precisely known - Panasonic hinted to me that the L10 and E-3 sensor have extended dynamic range over the LiveMOS sensor in the E-410 and the E-510, but the E-3 sensor appears to have a faster read-out capability. My guess is that the imaging specs are the same as the E-3 and L10 but its read-out performance is closer to the L10. But they are all LiveMOS type sensors.

Re: Olympus E-420 DSLR revealed

just a small heads-up.
I received an e-system newsletter today which included the e420 announcement. Also, the retro look leather casing should be available in europe now. (it was released in japan for the e410 a while ago)
however, nothing on the oly site (yet?) about it. The link in the mail goes to the casing webpages, but no e4xx leather case. Should be available in white, black and brown.

Re: Olympus E-420 DSLR revealed

yes, it was dutch, but the source was oly europe.
I do think people in different countries get different newsletters though (ref the F1 announcement.. I didnt see that one.. yet?)

oly is a bit sloppy with their newsletters/websites. On the bottom of the newsletter there was copyright 2007. And some links work, but don't go where they should be. etc.
