Re: Olympus ME-1 Magnifier Eyecup review

The E1 viewfinder accessories connect via a rotating bayonet method, the E3 and other cameras use a vertical sliding method of attachment.

The VA-1 Angle Finder comes with two adapters so that it can be fitted to either method of connection - do not know about the magnifying eyepieces.

Hence its propensity to slip off and end up in a cow pat maybe

Can I buy this adapter and thus use the ME-1?
My eyesight would definitely benefit - (so would the sharpness of my images I suspect)

Anyone from Olympus (UK) lurking??

You can buy an adapter to fit the E-1 from these guys.

I'm only assuming that the 'Seagull' angle-finder referred to fit's the E-300/330/500/400/410/510 directly.

Re: Olympus ME-1 Magnifier Eyecup review

Looks right, but I'd be a bit concerned about how far away from the VF your eye might end up... probably doesn't matter with an angle finder, but might with an adaptor. The view thru the E500/510 VF is restricted slightly with the ME-1 anyway, especially if you wear glasses. I lose the VF info with mine, but it might be better on an E1 because the info strip is along the bottom rather than the side.

Re: Olympus ME-1 Magnifier Eyecup review

The main issue with the ME-1 is light falling in from the side. I took an eyecup from a telescope eyepiece (I had a spare, but orion optics for instance sells those for a few bucks a piece), modified it to fit the Me-1 circumference and voila:

I think Brian Mosley has posted a description of his eyecup on dpreview a while ago. He used the "harmonica" 7405 eyecup from orion optics I believe. I opted for the other one-sided cup.

Re: Olympus ME-1 Magnifier Eyecup review

Well, I guess that the E1 and E3 don't need the ME-1. Both cameras have a big viewfinder and maybe there are dark corner issues by using it.
I don't own an E* so I don't know if the ME-1 fits.

Re: Olympus ME-1 Magnifier Eyecup review

The ME1 should fit on the E3, since it uses the same bayonet as the other "consumer" models afaik. the only weirdo in the pack is the e1

and it is the weirdo one that has the positive fitment that is easy to remove and fit and difficult to accidentally displace.
