Max size of CF memory card on E1

Can someone auggest the maximum size of CF memory cards that can safely be used in an E1?

Olympus suggest on their website as 4Gb but I remember seeing somewhere that 8Gb can be used but may not show the the number of pictures available on the LCD screen. I have used 4Gb size cards but at times I feel I could do with using larger size cards.

I'm using 8GB card in E-1 without any problems, LCD will show only 1999 if there is more, but you should be able to shoot. In manual is a statement, that when you will save 9999 pictures on card, a new folder will be created. Max number of folders is 999 ... so I think that should be enough for anyone . I've never tried 16GB card ir bigger, so I can't say, but I think it should work as long as it is not UDMA or something.
    Regards, Pavel.

Thank you very much for the reply. I usually shoot in RAW + jpg so it shows up as 279 pictures on a 4Gb card. From what you say I think 16Gb may be OK as well. I have a stack of 1,2 and 4Gb CF cards but on a recent shoot I ran out and thought I should buy may be higher capacity cards so 8 or 16Gb purchase is on the cards.

I also use an 8Gb card in my E-1. A freshly formatted card shows 748 RAW shots available. I only shoot RAW. However, RAW + SHQ shows 544. You'll be OK with a much bigger card.
