    The new m.Zuiko 14-150mm f/4-5.6 has arrived!

I have a m.Zuiko 14-150mm f/4-5.6 here at the office and have been out enjoying the early summer sun here in Hemel Hempstead with the new lens. The samples (JPEGs and RAW files taken with the new lens fitted to an Olympus E-P2) are uploading as I type this.

The autofocus, like the new 9-18, is now very refined and nearly silent. The continuous focus performance in video recording mode is worlds better than the original 14-42 kit lens, as this clip demonstrates:

Wow... you can actually hear other things on top of the lens focusing. xD That was recorded with the on-board stereo mic only, right?

Yes, it's impressively quite compared to the 14-42 and it's fast too.

I will upload another clip later taken indoors in a quiet room.

I have been waiting for this lens to come along. Good news. Now I have something to match my 18-200VR Nikor that I depended on for my travel photography. Bonus with quiter and faster AF too.

On the one noticable AF with your video, it doesn't appear to have the out-in-out motion for locking on focus that is kind of a nuisance on my 14-42 kit lens - - - is that correct?

Also be nice to see how the C-AF tracking mode fares, with this lens.

Hi Robert, I haven't yet had a chance to do detailed comparisons, but the immediate impression I get is that continuous AF is now usable with the 14-150, even in quiet locations.

I will be posting some more sample videos in due course.

I'm thinking of buying this lens in the near future for my E-PL1. The DPreview of it was ok but didn't exactly set my heart racing! How does this lens fare in general (non-video) use?

It's a 10x plus superzoom, so there is no way it's going to compete with primes or many short zooms, but I think it performs pretty well. I haven't put it through the benchtests yet, but I'm not left feeling I should avoid using this lens - it's been on my E-P2 almost constantly.

Re: The new m.Zuiko 14-150mm f/4-5.6 has arrived!

I have been using this lens on the E-P2 quite a bit. Here's my 14 year old daughter, Elizabeth, just missing the school long jump record (by 3cm) at her school sports day this morning:

I did focus manually, if you were going to ask

One annoying thing when using continuous focus in video mode is that if the subject starts moving violently, then focus goes awry. I noticed this the other night when recording Elizabeth and her schoolmates on stage at their summer school concert. Everything was fine until they started jumping up and down as part of the dance routine. The AF point was never off them, but as there was a lot of motion it lost the AF lock and started hunting, hence going out of focus. Needs work Olympus!

But the C-AF mode with tracking does work well as long as the subject doesn't race around the frame.

    3cm! Bet she's annoyed!

Great image BTW - I love the look of concentration on her face!

Looks pretty sharp to me - manual focus too!

Yup, she was actually quite upset as (you might be able to see that she had to compete with a bandaged leg) she has broken the record in regional competition against other schools (she's regional champion for Year 9 this year) but the school record can only be set once a year at the annual sports day

This image was processed in LR3. It's virtuallythe whole frame, only a little was lost after I straightened the horizon (I really must get into the habit of using the digital level!).

I used manual focus and continuous shooting. I didn't get an opportunity to try C-AF. The aperture was set to f/8, and I used ISO 500 - it was slightly overcast.
