I made a copy of the video before it disappeared. It is a 42MB file so I can get it to you if you send me a Private Message that gives me your email address.

I would store it here but I don't think there is a file storage feature in this forum.

Re: Leica 14-50mm Zoom Ring locked up

Happened upon this discussion after my 14-50 similarly locked up. Encouraged, I couldn't find the YouTube video, but DID manage to find simple written step-by-step instructions on the self-repair. Thought it might be helpful to someone:

    to quote:
    "
I've had the same problem, but you can fix it easily by yourself:

    • remove the rubber (front zoom) ring
    • remove the two metal stripes carefully
    • remove the screws which are direct in sight
    • now you can pull the front ring backwards carefully
    • you can see three screw more insight the lens. in my case, all these screws were loose
    • thighten the three screws and assemble the lens in opposite way

Be careful not to bend the metal stripes to much, otherwise the won't fit fine.
It is a job of about 10 minutes, there is nothing that can go wrong.
    Good luck. "

Took me about 20 minutes because I have kids... but it's fully fixed and functional again, and not a penny spent.

    Dear Mr. Kurkowski,
I have had the same problem with my Panasonic Leica D Vario-Elmarit lens.
After finding out I'd better repair the thing by myself, I would be very greatful if I could use your video.
You might email the video to me via "Wetransfer.com", allowing you to send large files over the internet for free.

    Thanks in advance
    and best regards,
    Paul

I'm happy to do that but it only works if I have your email address. Send me a private message with your email address.

OK, Paul. I sent you the video - please let me know when you receive it, and again when you have that lens working!

Re: Leica 14-50mm Zoom Ring locked up

Thanks again for sending me the video.
At least it took me to the point where I had to disassemble the rest of the lens.
I found out the 3 "wider Phillips screws" were in place, but one of the inner parts that these screws are holding (sliding bearings to connect the front part to the base part of the lens, and allow the zoom to slide from 14 to 50 mm) had gone loose.
I found it in the bottom part where the focus motor and the electronic parts are located.
It took me couple of hours to put all the parts together again.
So now I am very glad - and proud - it's working again, where your video is a great help to get all the tiny screws and parts together again.

    Best regards,
    Paul

Re: Leica 14-50mm Zoom Ring locked up

    Hi Ted,
Yes, thank you for sending the video to my email. I found two of the three screws loose. Regretfully, the hardest one to reach was one of them, and other than fully disassemble the whole lens, the only option is to use a flat screwdriver and and wedge it between the screw and the plastic wall and force screw turn and tight it as much as possible.
    Thanks again,
    Francisco Silahua
