    AVCHD Conversion

I just picked up a GF1 and want to start to experiement with converting the AVCHD files into a format more usable for storage and later playback (with as little impact on quality as possible). Any suggestions or experiences to share would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

If it's like the GH-1, good luck.
    I haven't got a solution yet.

    Re: AVCHD Conversion

Handbrake can convert them to either .mp4 or .mkv

    It's quick and easy(IMO)

Is that kind of what you're looking for?

    Re: AVCHD Conversion

Just tried inserting an AVCHD file from GF1 (extension .MTS) into the Sony video editing software Vegas 9. It works fine and from here it can be saved into several different video formats.

Roxio 2010, Adobe Premier Elements 8, and Corel VideoStudo Pro can all convert AVCHD video.

    Re: AVCHD Conversion

If you're Mac based, then iMovie will convert the files to AIC, an intermediate codec. Voltaic HD is another option, which allows conversion to any codec which you have installed on your computer, this will give you a few more options than iMovie, though I believe Toast will do more or less the same. There is now a Windows version available... shedworx.com

OT: I had a look at your smugmug galleries Adrian and it has changed my view on the Panasonic micro 4/3 cams. You have some great footage posted. When the price of the GH1 drops....

    Re: AVCHD Conversion

Henk, thanks for taking the time to have a look at my galleries. Not all the footage on the site is from the GH1, though I'm still impressed at how good some of the footage can look, it is capable of great results for it's size and cost.
