Very simple for me, I wanted a camera without all the amorphous lumps allowing me to jam it down into a nook in my carry-on bag.

What I got was a camera that I love for a whole variety of reasons - lens, speed/aperature control just like an old SLR, great pictures, ease of use, and it looks just like an M8.

I just got one for Christmas -- $950 from Amazon brand new. It had the original 1.0 firmware, so it had probably been sitting around for a while.

I love the traditional controls, the simplicity of use, the relatively fast lens, and the telecentric 4/3 format optics.

I'm saving my pennies for the 25mm f1.4 lens -- that would be sweet to own.

I just have it for 2 months after waiting for 2 years! The price was drop down to ~ 1300 $ here in Bangkok. Great design with wide range OIS leica lens. Feeling a lot better than my ex.Canon 400 D. I love it's design and feel but it's viewfinder a bit too samll and dim.

I got mine used for $800. I love the rangefinder type body, the Leica lens, the controls and, along with my Nikon adapter, using all my old but goody Nikkor lens. How's a black tape L1 with a Nikkor 24mm f2 for street cred? Nice.

For me, the deal maker was the glass. Coming from the LC-1, which I still enjoy using a lot, I saw the L1 as the next generation. (Although a next generation LC-1 MKII in the 2/3 sensor would have been my preferred choice.)

I have always wanted a Leica, but this gave me the opportunity to have the lens. The body styling reminds me of a rangefinder. The apperture ring was nostalgic. But it went for less than $1000 at my local Circuit City, so I jumped on it. Over the last two months, I have totally fallen in love with it; the way it handles, the image quality, everything.
