And I know there are several L1 users looking in...

I'm interested to know what aspect of the L1 drew you to owning one? Was it the tradition aperture ring and shutter speed dial? Leica lens quality? The rangefinder styling of the body? Have you upgraded from an LC-1?

The complete package, it has the true feel of a film SLR. it has been designed by photographers for photographers, at last someone was listening.

I bought the L1 because it felt like a real camera, the offset viewfinder prevents "nose grease" from getting on the LCD, for some reason I could see better through the L1 than the D80 and K10d i compared it to. and of course the Leica lens.

Thumbs up Re: And I know there are several L1 users looking in...

I accidentally stumbled upon the L1 on a local classified, bought the new kit in box cheap while pondering a k10d for my first dslr... and am so glad to have made that quick decision. The 14-50 Leica designed lens rules, and having the L1 set up like it is teaches me more about photography than any other consumer entry level camera could offer. I will miss that aperture ring when I move over to Oly for telephoto lenses!

To all those lucky people who have just purchased an L1 at the low price of
700 YOU HAVE A CLASSIC, The build quality is top of the line. the lens sensor combination when used in RAW is all you will ever need, don't be tempted into the latest SUPER camera, you already own it.

There isn't much to argue against there - the stabilised lens will justify much of that price straight away.

I bought the L1 for the Leica lens, the aperture ring on the Leica lens and the unique rangefinder styling of the camera. What I like about the camera having used it for a bit now is the image quality from the lens, the aperture ring on the lens (I'm old fashioned), and the unique rangefinder styling.

It's all been said already in the above posts. I bought mine as I could not afford the Digilux 3 version at the time. I haven't been disappointed at all and I particularly like the 25/1.4.
