It's early days but the new forum and gallery are here!

This is the very first post using the revised Four Thirds User forum.

It's not yet fully integrated into the site, which is being redesigned anyway. So please forgive the 'vanilla' look and some areas that are clearly not working properly, in particular the old gallery. The priority is to get it up and running and of course you are welcome to have a play. Your feedback is also most welcome.

All posts and boards (and blogs) from the old forum are preserved here.

    New Gallery!

The old gallery remains for compatibility reasons - it keeps previously posted gallery images in the forum visible. However, from now on you should use the new gallery. It's now easier to select and upload your images. The user interface is more modern and, above all, it's an up to date product that is actively being developed. More on this later.

That's all for now - I have to get back to setting it all up and getting used to the new configurations and options!

    Ian

PS For the time being some of the old familiar features are absent, like 'Thanking' buttons, etc. Not all these features can be retained but some will and of course there will be new ones as well.

Here are a few notes about the new system:

    Forum:

Auto Save when composing a forum post is a new feature; your entry is saved every 60 seconds.

To post images from your new gallery click the camera icon in the Advanced editor.

    New Gallery:

The plan is to import all users' images from the old gallery to the new gallery. Watch this space!

At present embedding an image from your gallery in a forum post only shows a small version of the image - we're working on that!

Camera exif data display isn't (yet) functional.

    Overall:

More customisations to come - but in the mean time please explore and let me know of any problems you come across, thanks.

    Test.

It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

When you go to enlarge it covers the title of the BBCode links. I guessed which I was copying. Android tablet using Chrome.

    And on the forum page,

    http://fourthirds-user.com/forum/cmps_index.php

It appears that you're in the Gallery by the menu at the top of the page.

The Image Link option from the gallery only provides a thumbnail - I can understand why, but it's not in our tradition Changing thumb to full in the BBCode fixes it but will look for a permanent change so full size back-linked images are shared to the forum.

Now in Firefox on Android and the pages display differently. In the Gallery when you select enlarge the image covers all the BBCode links.

But it's easy to toggle back to the smaller size.

Anyway I'm off to get some sleep!

There is a Mobile Style - bottom left, selectable instead of Default Style. It's not automatic though.
