    Can Lumix cameras mark clips?

    Hi,

I've searched quite a long time trying to find this answer. Max Yuryev was not sure and recommended to ask this forum. Hope you can help.

The ability to "mark" a clip when filming is an invaluable time saver for me in the context of many projects which amass hundreds of very short clips. With my Panasonic HPX-250 I can easily mark a clip with one of the user buttons before I stop recording. Then when I'm finished with the shoot, I know at a glance which handful of clips I will upload for editing instead of reviewing hundreds to find the footage I need. With the G7, I am unable to do this. Are you aware of a solution or method to mark clips before the transfer and post production process? Thank you in advance for your time.

Re: Can Lumix cameras mark clips?

I have been in touch with Panasonic contacts in Japan and this is their response:

"In our Lumix, Marking function is only estimated at ‘4K S/S’ mode. So we can set at ‘4K S/S’ mode and after that we can change the setting of Shutter Speed and so on. However, unfortunately in our Lumix Marking function is not estimated at ‘Normal movie’ mode… If there are a lot of request, we will change but…"

Does this make sense enough to answer your question?

Re: Can Lumix cameras mark clips?

Thanks Ian. I appreciate the legwork and obtaining a response directly from the folks in Japan. Even if my deciphering powers are not accurate ("estimated" = "activated"??) it does not sound promising for this capability for the G7. I also was curious about this function on the GH4, but it sounds like the marking capability is limited to their video P2 lineup.

Incidentally, do you know if the image icons for each clip can be adjusted to show the last frame instead of the first? This way, I could place something in front of the lens before I stop filming in order to effectively "mark" a clip. Just wondering…please do not spend time researching again.
