what lens for recording video on Lumix D6?

    Howdy folks, how's things?

    Hope your well.

Can I pick your brains for a sec?

I have just got my hands on a Lumix D6 body - very excited. I will be using it very soon to try & capture a nature documentary of our 10 day kayaking trip. I am trying to decide on what lens to get.....but find it hard to decide.

I need/like to to cater for:
    - low light
    - fast action shots aswell as landscape
    - possibly a wide lens?
    - stabilised/ VF
    - manual & auto focus

My first thought was a zoom lens that has a large aperture & manual & auto focus.....but im nervous that the apertures arent large enough on these zooms? The quality/footage/aperture of the primes sound great but filming a doco on prime?!?!

Do I go for the MFT's zoom lens (zooms seem to be recommended for doco's) with a f2.8 & above?

Go for a quality prime lens & make do without a zoom?

Try using an adaptor to a non MFT lens?

    Thanks for any responses...

    cheers

    Ro :-)

Same boat as you but Gh3. Just picked up the 14-42 mk2 and 14mm prime
They will be my starter lenses, but will add a fast prime for low light. Really want to try some adapted vintage lenses. Will be shooting mostly video

I use some Minolta Rokkor prime lenses on my GH2 with great results. 50mm 1.4, 28mm 2.8

Re: what lens for recording video on Lumix D6?

    Cheers for replies guys....much appreciated.

I hear good things about those rokker lenses.

I got deal on the lens below (so bought it)...which ive heard ace reports about. will add more to my prime collection when I get more $$$.

    olympus M.Zuiko 17mm f1.8

Now - for the zoom. desirably I am thinking about 2 seperate zooms to cover a wide range (& hopefully retain some good quality) but I am flat broke to buy both &/or considering the panasonic 14-140mm f3.5-5.6 as 1 zoom to cover both/all as I hear on many forums etc that its one of the better all round zooms - if you desire going that path. i see there is plenty of the older 14-140mm f4 -5.6.....maybe I will just get that cos the f3.5 - 5.6 is quite pricey.....

I hear talk always about.....the zooms wont yield as high quality as the primes....but is it that noticeable for video?

    cheers again

    Ro :-)
