Re: OM-D EM-1 manual available for download

Including full-sized, printed manuals doesn't really make much sense anymore, I actually have a drawer full of manuals that came with the E-1, the E-500, E-330, E420, etc. each of them had 3 or 4 of them in 3 or four different languages. (I've often wished there had been some way to return and redirect, say the Spanish and French ones

A huge waste of paper, and also extra weight and bulk, when you take into account the global volume involved. Since most of us have computers and printers these days, downloadable manuals make a lot of sense. They are also much easier to revise or amend, as needed.

But it would be very good if Olympus could use some of the costs saved by putting the real -that is the "reference" manuals online to pay someone to actually read and revise them, both by getting rid of stale "boiler plate" blocks of texts and sometimes idiotic illustrations and by improving the text. (Having taught technical writing, I know that this is often not as easy as it sounds.)

Just for the sake of it: Just bought a OM-D E-M1 Kit with 12-40 f2.8 and the box included a full manual - and the lens shade - and a bag for the lens was included too. :-)

    Yours,

I hope you enjoy your purchases, both very nice pieces of equipment.

I found the spreadsheet on the site below quite helpful in setting up my EM 1.

Good to know - if it really was the full reference manual. But I must say that I found it necessary to also get Gary L. Friedman's excellent book to even begin to really begin to understand this complex feature-set and sometimes arcane menu/sub-menu/sub-sub menu control hierachies.

The same is even more true of my OM5II.

The manual that came with my OM-D EM-1 is as much use as a chocolate teapot! You have to download it.
