    Spam allegedly sent from here

I have been alerted to some incidents where forum members have received emails purportedly sent by us containing spam. The subject title is: "Learn How To Have An Unlimited Supply Of Nutritious Food".

I just want to say that FTU has absolutely nothing to do with this and we are investigating how the sender has managed to make it appear that we were the source of their spam.

It would be useful for us if anyone who has received this email could email me a copy with the message header intact so we can trace where it was sent from. If you can help, please send to:

    forum-admin@fourthirds-user.com

And if you have received one of these spam emails I can only apologise for any inconvenience!

Re: Spam allegedly sent from here

I think we have found the problem - someone is using a form on our blog pages to send spam email to others. The form is designed to allow people to alert friends about interesting posts but the spammer is substituting his/her own message. You can't send without answering a random series of questions so it looks like the spam is being sent manually (200 messages in a week ). We have disabled the form and the spam emails appear to have stopped.

Thanks Ian! I hadn't been hit by any of this spam but I appreciate every effort to fight that insidious plague.

Does anyone else find it slightly ironic that the subject of the spam is an unlimited supply of nutritious food. Makes me think of Monty Python - "Spam, spam, eggs, spam, chips, spam, spam, beans, spam and spam."

I can't believe anyone would find it worthwhile to manually send 200 spam emails. They've obviously been eating too many spam fritters.

Oh yes, spam fritters for school dinner (lunch in Canada).
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

Haven't eaten spam in decades, but as I remember it I thought it was palatable all those years ago

Love corned beef too and have occasionally treated myself to corned beef hash occasionally. The rest of the family think I am deranged... (for eating corned beef hash!)

Yes, thank you Ian for addressing this spam problem.

It may not be related to this, but recently Safari is inserting my account name (jml) and then requesting access to my keychain passwords whenever I visit the Four Thirds User site. No other sites do this—including those with automated log-in. Does anyone else have the same issue?

Re: Spam allegedly sent from here

I would definitely like to solve this problem - I have installed Safari and am surfing around, no problems so far - can you describe a little more about the problem you are encountering?

Re: Spam allegedly sent from here

Thanks for taking a look, Ian.

Whenever I am not logged in on Four Thirds User and try to view a thread in which I have posted a comment , I now get this message:

This only happens on this website.

I should add that I am using a pre-release of OS X 10.8.4 and Safari Version 6.0.3 (8536.28.10) which may be the culprit.

P.S.: I just noticed that it only happens when I am not logged in AND I click the "FORUM>>" button to view a thread from the forum topics.
