FTU Knowledge wiki - looking for volunteers...

Some of you may have noticed that the Knowledge link on the site's nav bar doesn't work. This is because the Four Thirds (including Micro Four Thirds) wiki that it linked to had fallen into disrepair so disconnected and disabled it. In fact it was being abused by spammers quite badly.

I think this is a shame as there is good information in the wiki. But it does need regular TLC and at the moment, for it to continue I need some help.

My plan is to update the mediawiki software to the latest more secure version and bring it back online, however, there is no point in doing this unless it is regularly checked and cosseted. I don't think I can do this by myself.

So - if you are interested in being part of a team of volunteers to get the wiki back up and running, please get in touch.

    Thanks!

Thanks Graeme - fundamentally I just need some people to keep an eye on the wiki once it's back up and running. It would be very handy to have people in different time zones, like you in Oz

As you may know, wikis can be edited and content added at any time by anyone. Most of the time edits are good and content added is useful, but sometimes not. Unwanted edits are easily dealt with (reverted to the last state that is desirable) - it's simple to get used to, but even if you don't want to do that, if we can be alerted when something undesirable is found we can then deal with it.

Thumbs up Re: FTU Knowledge wiki - looking for volunteers...

FYI, the later versions of MediaWiki do allow one to lock the wiki down quite a bit more, i.e. requiring a verified account before being allowed to edit. This does go a little bit against the grain of a Wiki (meant to be totally open and anonymous) but will help keep the spammers out.

I can never resist to contributing to a good wiki - count me in :-)

I'll try to remember to keep my eye on it when we get the computer back online.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.
