Re: OM-D E-M5 Mark II 40MP mode test shot

The crops are pretty ridiculous on the D8XX cameras, and the DR. But let's be honest, cameras do amazing things these days, I don't know that there's an ILC on the market today that can't take great...

Sticky: Re: The big Olympus E-System wish list!

I landed a great deal on an E-5 a few years back. Never really liked it. It seemed to have low-ISO noise that was very annoying. I actually preferred my E-3 which I still have, unloaded the e-5...

Well would you look at that

I joined 500px Thursday night, finally. I took a look at my stats this morning, and would you look at number 2:

Re: Sea Dogs of Cat Island

Thank you to everyone, the dive was an absolute blast. Oceanic whitetips are big, but they were very docile. Sharks have fascinated me since I was just a little guy, so this was a dream for me.

    Sea Dogs of Cat Island

So, I haven't been super active on this forum (or any photography forum) in a while. I love this community, but I don't use my 4/3 gear nearly as much as my Nikon gear. But I might have a new spot...

Re: Weatherproof Kit - Just how good is it

No matter what your repair, Olympus US (as is the case with most out of warranty work from all the manufacturers - at least in the states) was charging a flat fee based on what the item was. The fee...

Re: Weatherproof Kit - Just how good is it

Somewhere between my 35-100 and E-3 a couple years back my weather sealing failed me. I was in a lake, the camera stayed above water, but moisture got in to the camera. I sent it to Oly hoping to get...
  8. Re: Two additional Olympus M.ZUIKO PRO lenses to launch in 2015

    Also, see plastic mounts: http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2013/12/assumptions-expectations-and-plastic-mounts

People make strong assertions with no evidence to back it up all the time - especially...
  9. Re: Two additional Olympus M.ZUIKO PRO lenses to launch in 2015

I would hope that as a "pro" lens it will be excellent. Time will tell. It's a lens I'll not ever own, but I do like for m4/3 to do well.
  10. Re: Two additional Olympus M.ZUIKO PRO lenses to launch in 2015

Yeah, would be nice if it did. I hate the inability to put a ND on my 14-24 without dropping like $600 for the Lee Big Stopper and the kit to attach it. Very irritating.

This is a bit of an...
  11. Re: Two additional Olympus M.ZUIKO PRO lenses to launch in 2015

I'm getting more and more interested in m4/3 all the time.

Re: The GH4 is here - key details

They went and upped it to 300 f/4. And I think there's a 40-150 f/2.8 on the roadmap. Those two could be an interesting pair.

    Re: FS - Zuiko 35-100, F2 OBOO

This is a HELL of a deal. Mine went a year ago for $2,000. Someone needs to snatch this wonderful lens up.

Re: The GH4 is here - key details

Well, I don't think there's a ton missing for weddings, maybe a couple, and the forthcoming 42.5 will be good for wedding photogs, I should think. Sports are a different story. Mirrorless systems...

Re: The GH4 is here - key details

A lot of pro video work is done using manual focus, for which there is a whole world of lenses. Top Cine lenses are all MF. A lot of pro video is coming down in to the mainstream, shooting cameras...
  18. Re: Musings and Dilemmas on Kit for Rare Photo Opportunities

Well, having owned the D7100 and the E-5, I'm quite confident that the E-5's autofocus isn't all that far behind. With the right lenses, Nikon's AF system is simply the best there is for speed, but...

Re: Ming Thein revisits the E-1

Those don't look too bad, thanks for sharing.

Haha, that's what I don't get about all the MF cameras going to CMOS, who cares if you can't crank the ISO? Different people have different...

Re: Ming Thein revisits the E-1

My 24MP APS-C produces great images well above ISO 1,600. I usually set my upper limit at ISO 6,400 on the D7100, although according to DXO, it's around even with my GF5's ISO 1,600, I find the GF5's...

By the way, that squirrel image is at 500mm, 1/250, ISO 1,600, hand held. Man, now I'm having second thoughts. Have to be strong. *whack

Considering a sale of the Bigma

Alrighty, I think I'm going to part ways with my Sigma 50-500mm f/4-6.3

Affectionately dubbed the Bigma, it's one of the longest 4/3 mount lenses out there. I think the only longer is the Sigma...

Re: Ming Thein revisits the E-1

    Well, probably not more.

I mean, I was OK with ISO 1600 on my E-3 when it was what I had, but after moving on to newer cameras, I find I don't like it as much up there. That said, in good light,...

Re: Ming Thein revisits the E-1

Well, there isn't likely to be a CCD replacement. With Hassy, Phase One, and Pentax all going CMOS for their MF's and Leica for the Type 240, combined with Kodak's financial troubles, the Leica M-E...
