I'd go for the 12-60, it's a better lens overall, a bit bigger and dearer but worth it I think.

:) I'll play the contrarian here and suggest if you plan on getting a wide angle such as a 9-18 or similar than there are some excellent deals around on the 14-54, probably half of the cost of the 12-60. If this next lens will be your widest for a while than the 12-60 would be my choice...

Tough choice, they're both such fine lenses! The 14-54mm is a very compact, classic design. I don't think you'll ever find a lens quite like it. The 12-60mm is very fast to focus (your E-30 will take good advantage of the SWD motor) and has quite an effective focal range. Both lenses are very sharp. It seems to me that the 12-60mm has better corner sharpness, though. The 14-54mm II is optimized for CDAF focus, which will make it more valuable if you ever want to add a compact PEN or Panasonic Micro Four-Thirds body to your set.

Another vote for the 12-60mm I have both lenses and find the 12-60 in place more often the 14-54. The 14-54 is lighter and I tend to use it on long days walking.
