OM-D E-M5 firmware 1.7 update

With this update you can now use the new VF-4 electronic vewfinder

The 2.4 million dot VF-4 isn't just for the Pen E-P5

The OM-D E-M5 has a built-in electronic viewfinder but you can also fit another to the hot shoe/accessory port. Some find this simply amusing but others like the option of being able to use an external finder because it can be used as a right-angled finder.

Olympus has now issued a firmware update so that the VF-4 finder, launched last month at the same time as the Pen E-P5. However, the eye-sensor function on the VF-4 is not supported. Nevertheless, E-M5 owners can now enjoy the higher resolution (2.4 million dots compared to 1.4 million with the standard finder) and improved optics of the VF-4.

To update the firmware in your E-M5, connect your camera to your computer running Olympus Viewer 2 or 3 software, and follow the on-screen instructions.
