High ISO comparison between the Olympus Pen E-P3 and OM-D E-M5

Back to back high ISO comparison of the Pen E-P3 and OM-D E-M5

UPDATE: Compare OM-D E-M5 sample images developed from RAW

After perusing the reaction here on FTU and on other sites to the OM-D E-M5 samples I posted earlier today seems that there is considerable (and rather predictable) interest in the improvement in high ISO performance of the E=M5 sensor. I just had enough time to set up a Pen E-P3 to take the same rising ISO sequence of shots that I took with the E-M5 and I have reproduced both the E-M5 and E-P3 sequences in the thumbnail gallery below.

I set both cameras to record Large Super Fine JPEG and RAW files simultaneously. The JPEGs were recorded with the Standard mode noise filter set. Please note that as the E-M5 did not have final firmware Olympus requested that we only reproduce camera JPEGs (no RAWs) at 1600x1200 resolution. For sensible comparison purposes I have treated the E-P3 examples the same way. Only a copyright watermark and resize sharpening have been applied to these sample images.

As usual, please let us know what you think of these comparison samples.

You can download the camera JPEG; just click on the thumbnail of your choice to display the JPEG image in your browser or right-click and select download target image.
