Live view AF firmware upgrade for ZD 70-300

Imager AF now possible with Zuiko Digital 70-300

A firmware update has been released by Olympus that enables the popular Zuiko Digital 70-300 telephoto macro zoom to autofocus with cameras that support Imager Mode AF, or continuous AF in live view using the sensor for contrast detect AF. Olympus bodies that support this mode include the E-420, 520, 30, and the new 620.

The 70-300 joins the 14-42, 9-18, 25mm pancake, 14-54 Mark 2, and 40-150 Mark 2 from the Olympus Zuiko Digital lens range in terms of this AFA capability. In theory, the firmware upgrade should enable the 70-300 to autofocus with Lumix G-series Micro Four Thirds cameras when fitted with am appropriate mount adapter.

See the firmware update history notes for the 70-300 below. To update the firmware of your lens, use Olympus Studio 2 or Master 2 while your camera, with the 70-300 lens fitted, is USB-connected to your PC and the computer, in turn is connected to the Internet. Panasonic Lumix users have an alternative method. Full details can be found on the Four Thirds Joint Update website.
