Olympus returns to the F1 Grand Prix circuit

Jon Nicholson to represent Olympus as official photographer for McLaren in F1

There was no mention of the dreaded F-word (Ferrari) in the official press release today, but it was only a couple of years ago that Olympus sponsored Ferrari and accomplished photographer John Nicholson demonstrated the abilities of the Olympus E-System at Grand Prix races.

Olympus has switched from red to silver and from Maranello to Woking, with today's announcement that Olympus UK has been appointed the official supplier of photographic services to the F1 Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team.

Jon Nicholson is an experienced motorsports photographer, having worked with former world champion Damon Hill and of, course, Ferrari over the years. Nicholson's photography isn't limited to the track, as his recent Olympus-sponsored exhibition of Darfur photography bears witness.

I hesitate to mention this, but the period during which Olympus sponsored Ferrari marked a downturn in the team's success... let's hope the opposite is the case this time and Nicholson gets some great shots of hero Brit, Lewis Hamilton, winning at the wheel of his McLaren this year.

Four Thirds User will be publishing a gallery of selected shots by Nicholson during this season which starts in less than two weeks at Melbourne, Australia.
