UPDATED - now vote to decide the ten finalists. UPDATED - entry conditions clarified, see rules below. UPDATED - entry instructions.

There are many exotic lenses to choose from in the Olympus Digital Zuiko range, but one of the most inspirational must be the Digital Zuiko 7-14mm f/4 super wide zoom. Let's face it, many of us can only dream of owning this lens. After all, its typical selling price is around US$1600, UKŁ1100, or EU€1500. But FTU, and sibling site: The Olympus UK E-System User Group ( will make that dream come true for one lucky person by mid-June this year. Yes, the DZ 7-14 is the grand prize for a new photography competition. We're most grateful to Olympus UK for donating such a superb prize. The competition is open to all Four Thirds system photographers and is not restricted by country.

That lens

The Olympus Digital Zuiko 7-14mm f/4 is a super wide lens with a field of coverage equivalent to a 14-28mm 135 format lens. The 7-14 is categorised by Olympus as a Super High Grade lens, the highest standard attainable by a Digital Zuiko optic. A constant aperture is maintained throughout the zoom range.

It's also weather resistant and has a water resistant skirt that is effective once the lens is mounted on a camera body. Despite its super wide field of view at 7mm, the optical characteristics maintain a rectilinear view with good control of optical distortions. Reviewers have consistently remarked that the 7-14 is an outsanding optical performer.

The competition

The subject for the competition is simple: PEOPLE. We're looking for photographs where a person or a number of people are the primary subject. The composition is your choice; a portrait, or a candid shot, documentary photo, street shot, whatever. The image entered must have been photographed originally using a Four Thirds system DSLR manufactured by Olympus, or Panasonic Lumix, or Leica.

FTU and members will be able to vote for their favourite entries via special online gallery of entries and in doing so short-list ten finalists. Entries will be accepted from 1st March 2008 and the deadline for final entries will be 30th April. Member voting will take place over two weeks from 1st May to 14th May. The winner will be judged by a top professional photographer and announced at the beginning of June.

How to enter

It's very simple - we have created a special Four Thirds User gallery category for competition entries. Once you have created your entry, make a copy resized to no larger than 800 pixels along its longest side and upload to the gallery category People - Spring 2008, which is under the main category of 'Competitions'.

If you decide, later, that you have a better image than one you have already uploaded, by all means upload the newer one you have. Only your most recently uploaded image will be entered into the competition itself.
